A celebration of life will be planned in Oregon at a later date for Audra La Verne (Blackwell) Hogel, a former Bonny Doon resident, who died in Oregon after a 15-month battle with cancer. She was 77.
Mrs. Hogel was born in Sacramento to Gladys (Gilchrist) and Francis Blackwell.
She stayed home to raise her children for many years and helped run the Meadowview Richfield gas station in Sacramento with her husband.
The family moved to Capitola in 1967. She returned to school and received her degree in food service from the University of Florida in 1976. She worked as a dietary food supervisor until she retired in 1994.
In 1995, the Hogels sold their home in Bonny Doon and traveled around the country for 15 years in their RV before settling in Bend, Ore.
Mrs. Hogel was a member of Thousand Trails, California Cruisers RV Club, the Order of the Eastern Star, Santa Cruz Redwoods Chapter, Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post 4108 in Redmond, Ore., and Elks Ladies Auxiliary No. 1371 B.P.O.E. in Bend.
Mrs. Hegel is survived by her husband of 58 years, John Joseph “Jack” Hogel of Bend; daughters, Judy Petit, and her husband, Guy, of Bend, Frances Farmer, and her husband, Mark, of Scotts Valley, Donna Hogel of Portland, Ore., John Hogel of Bend and Debra Hogel; brother, Jim Blackwell, and his wife, Margaret; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren
