For some home-schooling parents who decide to transition back to a classroom setting, Scotts Valley’s Baymonte Christian School has become an option, officials of the private kindergarten through eighth grade school said.
Admissions Director Rebecca Finney said that each year several parents who home school decide to enroll their child or children into Baymonte Christian. Of the 50 new students enrolling this year, five are from home school families.
The reasons for this vary, she said. Sometimes the parents see a need for the child to have more socialization, to be in a nurturing environment, and to learn Christian values. Or, the parents may feel challenged in teaching the children at the academic level their student has reached.
“Families will often transition to Baymonte after home schooling, as the Christian private school environment offers many of the characteristics that attracted them to home school in the first place,” she said.
“The integration of faith, attention for individual needs, small class size, and the nurturing environment all contribute to a successful transition for students who have been home schooled,” Finney said.
Baymonte Christian School at 5000 Granite Creek Road in Scotts Valley has a school population of 270 students with an average class size of 15 students.  The school leases the building space from GateWayBibleChurch but is not affiliated with the church, although some of the student families are members. In addition, Baymonte has three preschools in Scotts Valley with 142 pre-schoolers enrolled at the three locations: at the main campus, on Scotts Valley Drive and one at the Bethany Drive site.
