A 42-year-old woman from Ben Lomond who is accused of embezzling more than $9,000 from the San Lorenzo Valley Middle School Panther Club pleaded not guilty to a charge of grand theft embezzlement during an arraignment Feb. 29.
The woman, who served as the treasurer of the Panther Club fundraising organization for 18 months, allegedly embezzled the money between late 2010 and July 2011 when she was removed from the position. Questions about the money apparently arose within the club, leading to an investigation by the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 23.
The women’s name has been redacted from this story.
