A concert planned for Friday, Feb. 1, will raise money for a Boulder Creek manicurist recovering from colon surgery.
The concert, featuring the Road House Ramblers, isfrom 8 p.m. to midnight at Joe’s Bar, 13118 Highway 9, in Boulder Creek. A chili feed and raffle with items from many Boulder Creek businesses will be part of the festivities.
Proceeds from the evening will be given to Betsy Flickinger, 59, who is recovering from a torn colon she suffered Dec. 20 during a polyp removal procedure.
Flickinger, according to Susie Austin, a close friend, underwent a relatively simple polyp removal procedure, but during the procedure the wall of her colon was torn.
While she recovered at the hospital, the colon tore a second time, sending Flickinger into septic shock and nearly killing her.
She is in recovery at Dominican Hospital’s rehabilitation center on Frederick Street in Santa Cruz.
“She’s self-employed and has good health insurance,” said Austin, who is organizing the benefit. “But she doesn’t have any income. She’s a home owner but hasn’t made a house payment in two months.”
Flickinger is expected to be able to return home with a live-in nurse in a week or so, said Austin, who has set up a bank account for donations at Bank of America, under Susie E Austin in trust for Betsy Flickinger. Donations can be made to account No. 164102789217.
Flickinger has lived in Boulder Creek since 1981 and works as a manicurist out of Hair Frenzy in Ben Lomond and Lockewood Hair Design at Oak Tree Villa.
Valley Churches United Missions is also involved and will accept donations on Flickinger’s behalf by mail or online: PO Box 367, Ben Lomond, CA 95005 or http://vcum.org.
