Men’s basketball
The Bethany University men’s basketball team improved to 2-0 at home after defeating San Diego Christian College, 89-72, in a nonconference matchup Tuesday, Nov. 24.
The Bruins are 2-8 this preseason. Their first win was over University of California, Merced, for homecoming Nov. 7.
The Bruins will travel to Atherton for the two-day Menlo Tournament on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 28 and 29. California Pacific Conference play begins Jan. 7.
Cross country
Bethany University freshman Antony Earley averaged 5 minutes, 40 seconds per mile on his way to 254th place in the NAIA Cross Country National Championships in Vancouver, Wash., on Nov. 21. He finished the race in 28 minutes, 7 seconds.
Fellow freshman William Copsey placed 313th in 30:30.
It was the first national race at the college level for both runners.
The race’s winning time belonged to Silas Kisorio of Oklahoma Christian University, who finished in 24:23.
The race capped the season for the Bruins.
Volleyball
Junior outside hitter Kim Feigles was named to the second team Cal-Pac All-Conference volleyball team for her play this season. Four other Bruins — Brittany Francis, Lauren Koons, Paige Olivo and Ashley Coila — received honorable mentions.
Soccer
Senior defender Todd Hanson was named to the second team Cal-Pac All-Conference men’s soccer team last week. Hanson was joined by Gabriel Cassaro and Harbor High graduate Daniel Cuevas, each of whom earned honorable mentions.
For the women, senior defender Cher’rond Henderson was named to the all-conference first team for her defensive play this season. Valerie Jordon earned second-team honors, and Amanda Anderson earned an honorable mention.
Women’s basketball
The Bruins opened the season with a 0-5 record after falling to Vanguard University, 117-21, last week. The team opens its Cal-Pac schedule in January.
The next home game is at 2 p.m. Dec. 5 against Southwestern College.
