A late-evening blaze completely destroyed a residence on the 500 block of Sylvan Avenue in Boulder Creek Saturday night, May 26.
Emergency dispatchers received the call at 11:16 p.m. and crews from Boulder Creek, Ben Lomond and Felton fire protection districts arrived on the scene 19 minutes later and, according to Boulder Creek Fire Chief Kevin McClish, had the fire under control by 12:49 a.m. Sunday.
“It was a challenging fire for us,” McClish said, citing the residence’s distance from the fire station as well as its distance from available fire hydrants. “It was pretty much totally gutted.”
The home is on a private road about 5 miles from the downtown Boulder Creek station.
McClish said that the fire started in a room that had a lot of computer equipment and spread from there.
“It was definitely accidental,” he said.
The lone resident of the house, whom McClish believed was the homeowner, was not injured.
