William Suter, 64, of Boulder Creek bought a winning MEGA Million ticket last Friday at the Mountain Store.
His prize is $450,559, which he will take as a lump sum in three to four weeks.
Suter, an auto parts sales specialist, said he might retire earlier than planned because of the win.
“I’m still in shock,” Suter said Monday. “It hasn’t hit home yet. I don’t think it will until the money is actually in my hands.”
Suter wagered $2 on a Quick Pick ticket. The ticket matched five of six numbers – 28, 19, 39, 26, 4 – and missed only the Mega number of 14. The jackpot, which stood at $140 million as of last Friday, has not yet been claimed.
MEGA Millions is a multistate game, played in California and 41 other states. Players pick five numbers from one to 56 plus a Mega number from one to 46. Draw times are Tuesdays and Fridays at 8:00 p.m.
