A Scotts Valley firefighter sprays water from Old El Pueblo Road onto the smoldering remains of a fire on the Highway 17 shoulder this morning.

A roadside fire was quickly extinguished by the Scotts Valley Fire Protection District in north Scotts Valley this morning before it could spread to nearby businesses and warehouses.
The fire was reported at 10:32 a.m. on Tuesday morning on the shoulder along Highway 17 southbound near the Granite Creek Road overpass as it runs parallel to Old El Pueblo Road. The nearest building was a large warehouse occupied by Creotecc. The warehouse is better known as the former location of Sessions apparel.
The fire appeared to have burned dry grass, underbrush and parts of several small trees.
Engines and a water tender from Scotts Valley Fire responded quickly to the scene and billowing smoke appeared over nearby warehouses as water dampened the fire.
Fire engines parked on Highway 17, slowing traffic, and onOld El Pueblo Roadand hosed the fire from both directions.
