Valley Churches United Missions has launched its annual Buck for Hunger drive to raise funds to support families in the community.
Letters went out to many homes in Santa Cruz County last week, asking for donations.
Last year, donations allowed the nonprofit to give emergency food bags to an average of 2,277 people per month.
Valley Churches’ programs provide families in need with the means to stay afloat during, and recover from, economic crises and natural disasters.
The proceeds from the Buck for Hunger drive are used to help with rent and mortgage payments, utility bills, medical and dental care, educational supplies, bus passes and gas vouchers.
Donations of cash or food during March and April qualify for a matching grant from the Feinstein Foundation.
