Grand opening deal at Redwood Canopy Tours
The Redwood Canopy Tours at Mount Hermon will offer visitors a $15 discount and a free T-shirt as part of its grand opening promotion Aug. 5 through 15.
The two-hour guided tour through the redwoods has been open for 18 months. There are six zip lines and two sky bridges that accommodate groups of as many as eight people.
The cost is normally $80.

Hotel tax begins
The Santa Cruz County Tourism Marketing District now charges a fee of $1.50 per night for hotel visits in the county, as of July 1. Only properties with six rooms or more are involved in the fee.
The district said the extra revenue will provide a needed boost for the countywide tourism marketing budget. The money will help advance the long-term planning and marketing programs of the Santa Cruz County Conference & Visitors Council, which aim to draw overnight visitors to the area during the winter when tourism business declines.
Children’s carnival in Ben Lomond
Early Head Start-Head Start will host a spaghetti feed and carnival with activities for families with children younger than 5 from 11 to 3 p.m. Aug. 29 at Highlands Park, 8500 Highway 9, in Ben Lomond.
Early Head Start-Head Start offers child-development and family support services to low-income families and their youngsters.
The program is looking to expand into the San Lorenzo Valley and Scotts Valley areas.
Chiropractor offers workshop
Tim Smith, a local sports and wellness chiropractor in Scotts Valley, is planning a workshop on how to eat, exercise, sleep, play, work and thrive, which he has titled Pain Free and Full on Energy.
The workshop will begin at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 4
