Celia Barba, a 19-year veteran Safeway Inc. employee, is the new manager of the Felton Safeway store.
Barba, who started her career as a “courtesy clerk” bagging groceries and collecting shopping carts in Davis, had been store manager in Pacific Grove and most recently was manager of the Mission Street store in Santa Cruz.
“I want to continue to operate a service-oriented store, a clean store where we keep our customers happy,” she said. “I asked to come here because the store has an awesome crew that’s community-oriented.”
The store has 52 employees and is part of a new emphasis on stocking locally grown produce, she said.
Crossfit Memorial Day challenge
Crossfit North Santa Cruz in Scotts Valley will host the third annual Trevor Win’E Memorial Day Challenge on Monday, May 25.
Win’E died in combat in 2004, and the money raised at the event is used to purchase cooling vests for troops in combat.
Athletes in teams of four are invited to complete 300 pull-ups, 400 push-ups, 500 sit-ups and 600 air-squats in a timed event. Registration is $50 a person or $200 a team, and teams compete each hour from 8 a.m. to noon.
