SV gym celebrates first year
The Vargas Academy will celebrate its one-year anniversary with an open house from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 23 at the studio, 1300 Green Hills Road, Ste. 6, in Scotts Valley. The academy will put on demonstrations of martial arts, parkour, hip hop dance and Zumba and will provide food, drinks and a raffle.

Financial adviser announces open house
Bob Fuller, a financial adviser for financial services firm Edward Jones, will host a community open house from 4:40 to 7:30 p.m. May 3 at his new office, 66230 Highway 9, Ste. 102, in Felton. Snacks will be served.

Hotel garners honors
The Quality Inn & Suites Santa Cruz Mountains, 9733 Highway 9, in Ben Lomond, received a 2011 Choice Hotels International Gold Award from Choice Hotels International Inc., the franchiser of the Quality brand. The award means the hotel is in the top 10 percent of the 4,900 Quality Inn franchised hotels in the nation.
Management is offering a 15 percent discount for locals who mention the “Gold Award” when booking reservations by May 1.
Bank receives praise
Santa Cruz County Bank was designated as a “Super Premier Performing Bank” for 2010 by the Findley Reports Inc., a 40-year-old industry consulting firm.
The bank met key ratios and growth rates established by Findley Reports and met the highest rating level established by the agency. It is considered to be in the top 10 percent of banks in the western United States.
