Chocolate shop opens in SV
Husband-and-wife duo Lloyd and Lindy Martin, the owners of Scotts Valley-based Chocolate Visions, have opened the only retail chocolate store in Scotts Valley.
The shop’s soft opening is today, June 24, at 224-C Kings Village Road in Scotts Valley. The storefront is between Pure Valley Water and Scotts Valley Chinese Cuisine, near Cinelux Scotts Valley.
“We’re the only real chocolate store in the area,” Lindy Martin said.
A grand-opening celebration is in the works, she said.
The shop has a full-sized professional kitchen, where the couple will make fine chocolates for retail and wholesale customers. Walk-in guests may place wholesale chocolate orders or buy individual chocolates or gelato from Massimo of Watsonville-based Gelato Massimo.
Chocolate Visions previously operated out of north Scotts Valley exclusively as a wholesaler. The move to Kings Village, from a 600-square-foot shop to 900 square feet, has taken months, and the Martins have done all the work themselves — putting their 6-year-old chocolate business on hold.
“My customers have been very nice,” Lindy said. “But they are asking, ‘When will we be able to order (again)?’”
The business sells to wineries and local grocery stores including Shoppers Corner in Santa Cruz and has customers across the U.S.
The Martins hope the new storefront will be a place for people to buy their fine chocolates and enjoy gelato before going to the movies.
Scotts Valley company gives $50K for tsunami relief
Scotts Valley’s Universal Audio, along with its UAD Powered Plug-In customers, combined to give a donation of $50,000 to the American Red Cross’s relief efforts in Japan.
“Although they may have slipped from the headlines over the past few weeks, the people of Japan are still suffering in large numbers from the largest catastrophe in that nation’s history,” Bill Putnam, founder of Universal Audio, said in a prepared statement. “… Our customers were extremely generous, and we thank them for their outpouring of support.”

Chinese food offers online ordering
The Red Pearl Chinese Cuisine in Boulder Creek now offers online ordering for customers.
Customers can specify how they want their food and a pickup time at www.redpearlonline.com. Orders can still be placed by phone, too, at 338-9800.
“Many of our customers are working long hours and don’t want to spend the time to wait for food or even prepare at home,” co-owner Ren He said in a prepared statement. “Now, customers can order their food and have it available for pickup when they drive through town.”
The restaurant at 13151 Highway 9, owned by He and Jenny Wu, is more than 5 years old.
McDonald’s cuts ribbon
Ronald McDonald visited Scotts Valley on Tuesday, June 21, to celebrate the grand reopening of Scotts Valley’s McDonald’s restaurant, which underwent a complete remodel this spring.
The Scotts Valley Chamber of Commerce hosted a ribbon-cutting, and regional management from McDonald’s hosted a ceremony.
Weight Watchers moves
Weight Watchers meetings have moved to a new location in Scotts Valley, 370 Kings Village Road, next to the Scotts Valley Community Center.
Leader Sue Keil will continue to lead classes, with the help of receptionists Cindy Hawkins and Debbie Horton.

Felton healer releases tool kit
Melissa Stone, the owner of Balance Studio Spa in Felton, has rereleased her book, “The Key to Life Is Balance,” as a package with her Groovy Goddess Yoga-Pilates workout and two guided meditation CDs.
Stone said the self-help kit will help reduce stress, balance one’s energy and help with negative patterns, pain, illness and sleep trouble.
