Hospital names new foundation head
Beverly Grova of Santa Cruz has been named foundation vice president for Dominican Hospital. She will serve as the executive director of the Dominican Foundation and is responsible for maintaining and growing philanthropic support for the hospital.
Grova had served as executive director of the Cabrillo College Foundation and the Cultural Council of Santa Cruz County.
She replaces Sam Leask, who resigned from the post.
Fair manager resigns
Michael Bethke has resigned his post as manager of the Santa Cruz County Fair to pursue career opportunities that include teaching, which begins for him in January.
Bethke helped guide the fair through this year’s legal challenges, which included an attempt by a group to close the fairgrounds on the basis of environmental concerns.
Free shoes for needy youth
Santa Cruz Community Counseling Center was selected by Payless Shoe Source as an official partner of Payless Gives Shoes 4 Kids, an annual giving campaign by the national company.
The Counseling Center will distribute 100 coupons for shoes to children of families in the Head Start, Early Head Start, Starlight Infant-Toddler and State Preschool programs.
Hospice hires new medical director
Hospice of Santa Cruz County has appointed Dr. Vanessa Little as chief medical director. Little will have clinical oversight of the team of doctors and clinicians that provides end-of-life care to more than 700 patients and families each year.
She is a 2000 graduate of University of California at Santa Cruz, and completed her osteopathic medical training at University of New England. Little served a residency in family medicine at Brown University in Rhode Island. She received specialty training in hospice and palliative care at University of Connecticut and has experience in palliative care at Yale-New Haven Hospital and Hartford Hospital. She was medical director at Pathways Home Health and Hospice in Sunnyvale and co-director at El Camino Hospital.
