Scotts Valley Idol returns
Malones Grille will host the fifth annual edition of its Scotts Valley Idol karaoke competition. The competition will last four weeks starting Saturday, Jan. 14, with semifinals and finals Feb. 12.
There is a $25 entry fee with no cover charge. The competition begins at 9 p.m.
First prize is $300, second prize is $200 and third prize is $100. Contestants must be 21 years old and can sign up by calling Ken, 566-2011.
Practitioner starts teaching in Felton
A new teacher, Jim Weaver, will begin leading qigong classes at Balance Studio Spa, 912 Lakeside Drive, in Felton.
The first class will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Feb. 5 and will cost $30.
Weaver teaches Tibetan qi gong and tantric meditation and practices kundalini reiki.

Restaurant opens bar
Bruno’s BBQ, 230 Mount Hermon Road, in Scotts Valley, has received its full Alcohol Beverage Control license and will host an open house at its full bar Saturday, Jan. 21.
The restaurant and bar will have specials on some drinks and appetizers as part of the open house.
