SV man to lead business council
Robert Murphy, the managing director and business development officer of Wells Fargo Insurance Services in Scotts Valley, has been elected chairman of the Santa Cruz County Business Council.
The council is a privately funded, not-for-profit organization of people representing a cross-section of industries in the county. It promotes economic vitality in Santa Cruz County and works closely with public-sector leadership.

Multilingual optometrist joins Insight
Optometrist Dr. Jamie Wong has joined Insight Eye Care in Scotts Valley.
Wong, who speaks Cantonese and Spanish, is the fourth optometrist at Insight.
She also practices customized visual therapy — analogous to physical therapy, but for the eyes — to treat vision problems that cannot be solved simply with glasses, contact lenses or surgery.

Cruzio to host open house
Cruzio, a Santa Cruz-based Internet service provider, will host its second Free Open House Extravaganza from 6 to 9 p.m. Feb. 1.
Forty new businesses will participate in the extravaganza at 877 Cedar St., Ste. 150, in Santa Cruz, and artwork will be displayed as part of the First Friday Art Tour
Food, drinks, giveaways and local music will be part of the celebration.

Free pancakes at IHOP
IHOP is giving away free pancakes Feb. 5, a Tuesday, to celebrate National Pancake Day.
The 30-year-old restaurant chain, which has a restaurant at 1549 41st Ave. in Capitola, will accept donations for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.
IHOP officials hope to raise $3 million for the cause.
