Safeway stores in Scotts Valley, Felton and throughout the region will collect donated food items during July to boost the summer food drive of Second Harvest Food Bank, which assists the needy.
“Safeway is proud to dedicate resources to programs that benefit the communities where we operate,” said Karl Schroeder, Safeway Northern California Division president. “The generosity of our customers and employees will help families in need.”
The summer drive provides food for children of low-income families who don’t have access to school-based breakfast and lunch programs, according to Second Harvest CEO Willy Elliott-McCrea.
Elliott-McCrea said that in past years individuals have benefited the drive by asking friends to bring a can of food to donate at barbecues and lemonade stands.
