Starting February 1, all Chihuahuas living in Santa CruzCounty are eligible for a free spay/neuter surgery, rabies vaccination and microchip identification by Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter. This offer is limited to the first 100 Chihuahua owners that sign up, first come, and first served.
Funds to cover these services are provided by the Alice & Emmy Fund, a generous gift from the Chihuahua Pride Day event.
To take advantage of this offer, make an appointment in personat either shelter location (2200 7th Ave., Santa Cruz or 580 Airport Blvd., Watsonville) by February 29. Bring your Chihuahua or a photo of your dog when making the appointment.
SCCAS also offers its Planned Pethood program which provides low-cost spay/neuter, rabies vaccine and microchip for all Santa CruzCounty resident dogs, cats and rabbits, see http://scanimalshelter.org/planned_pethood.
“Santa CruzCounty has a mandatory spay/neuter law for dogs and cats over the age of six months that reside in the County,” says Melanie Sobel, SCCAS general manager. “By spaying or neutering companion animals, we can end unwanted births, reduce the needless suffering that homeless animals endure, and save taxpayers’ money at the same time.”
