Scotts Valley mainstay Paige Thibodeau is celebrating her 35th year as a chiropractor in Scotts Valley.
Originally from Myrtle Beach, S.C., Thibodeau graduated from Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa, and spent seven years working with her parents in southern California. The third-generation chiropractor — one of 15 in her family — followed her brother Peter to Santa Cruz County, where he had started a chiropractic business in Soquel. He suggested she do the same in Scotts Valley, because the town needed a chiropractor. She took his suggestion, and the business took off.
“I fell in love with the place,” she said.
While maintaining her practice, Thibodeau raised her four daughters in the Santa Cruz area, which she says reminds her of Myrtle Beach.
Thibodeau uses the activator method, a research-based full-spine technique that uses a small “activator” tool to provide low-force chiropractic adjustment that restores spinal balance and joint alignment. Since 1989, she’s maintained an Advanced Proficiency rating, which requires yearly credentialing.
A member of the American Chiropractic Association, among others, she also provides microcurrent therapy, laser therapy, therapeutic massage with California certified therapists, x-rays, and nutrition guidance and support.
Thibodeau has maintained the same office at 4736 Scotts Valley Drive since June 1976 and has no plans to retire, even after 35 years on the job.
“I really enjoy what I do, and I want to put that off as long as possible,” Thibodeau said.
