Dr. Brad Hartung has purchased Hinde Chiropractic from Dr. Aaron Hinde, whose family began the practice more than 28 years ago.
Hartung, 35, has practiced with Hinde since June and took over the practice in late October.
“Hinde Chiropractic has been such a great name in the community,” Hartung said. “It has a reputation of excellence.”
Hartung was originally a graphic designer but was laid off during the dot-com bust in the early 2000s. He began studying massage therapy and became interested in chiropractic work when he met a chiropractor at church.
Hartung graduated from Palmer College of Chiropractic West in 2008 and moved with his family to Falmouth, Ky., where he worked as an associate doctor.
In May, he talked with Hinde after seeing a classified ad for the business and signed a letter of intent to purchase the practice.
Dr. Robert Hinde began the practice in the San Lorenzo Valley before moving to Scotts Valley more than 20 years ago.
Dr. Aaron Hinde, his son, also practiced for more than 10 years but has recently turned his attention to founding a beverage company.
Hartung knows the valleys from his childhood and has become involved with local residents by visiting various service clubs, joining the chamber of commerce, meeting new patients and banking in town.
Hartung is a chiropractic general practitioner and specializes in sports injuries and work with pregnant women and children. He and his wife, Sharon, have three children: Holly, 7, Oscar, 5, and Ivy, 18 months.
“Aaron and I have similar philosophies, similar awards at graduation, and our career paths were similar,” Hartung said. “For me, this is the right place at the right time.”
