Santa Cruz Moose Lodge 545
The Lodge served a tri-tip dinner and hosted the district social for the tri-county area Moose Lodges on May 1, and members prepared a Mother’s Day breakfast for lodge members and their families.
The lodge performed its first Adopt-A-Highway cleanup day at the Pasatiempo exit ramp and Park-n-Ride area May 22.
Lodge members and their families will participate in the Memorial Day festivities by marching in the Felton Memorial Parade on Saturday, May 29. The lodge will also assist the Santa Cruz Military Officers Association of America raise and lower about 400 flags at the cemetery on Paul Sweet Road for the Avenue of Flags display. These original casket flags are flown three times a year in honor of our deceased Veterans.

Scotts Valley Rotary
The club will celebrate its 35th year in Scotts Valley with a Denim, Diamonds, and Wine Gala. There will be live music by Mountain Drive Bluegrass, dinner, wine tasting and auction.
Dinner includes appetizers, salad selection, quick-roasted Caesar salmon filets on a bed of fresh spinach with citrus wedges, tri-tip roasts marinated in beer and salsa and served with horseradish and salsa fresco, and grilled garlic bread.
Auction items include a chocolate-making class at Mackenzie’s Kandy Kitchen, San Jose Sharks seats near the glass, a Scotts Valley firehouse dinner, a San Francisco New Year’s getaway and more.
The gala will be from 5 to 10 p.m. June 5 at the Scotts Valley Community Center, 360 Kings Village Road. Cost is $35 in advance and $40 at the door.
The club meets from 12:15 to 1:30 p.m. Mondays at the Hilton Santa Cruz-Scotts Valley, 6001 La Madrona Drive. Lunch is at noon and costs $16.

Kiwanis Club of Scotts Valley
Kiwanis supported the Scotts Valley Educational Foundation’s Mountain Charlie Challenge Bike Ride. The club also sold water and beer at the Scotts Valley Grand Prix and provided the stage at the Start/Finish line. Club members supported Big Brothers-Big Sisters of Santa Cruz at its Bowl for Kids’ Sake event and participated in The Human Race. All proceeds will support scholarships and charities.
Dr. Claude Roge, a Kaiser physician, and his wife, Shelly, spoke at a May club meeting. For the past five years, they have traveled to Haiti to provide medical services. They spoke about their post-earthquake trip to provide emergency medical services to the victims. They presented a slide show and sang traditional Haitian folk songs.
The club meets 7 a.m. Wednesdays at Heavenly Café, 1270 Mount Hermon Road (cost $5), except the second Wednesday of each month (June 9), which is a 6 p.m. meeting at the Hilton Santa Cruz-Scotts Valley, 6001 La Madrona Drive. Cost is $20.
San Lorenzo Valley Rotary
The club is collecting money to provide medical equipment to Guatemalan hospitals that serve needy populations there.
The club participated in the Humanity in Motion walk for Second Harvest Food for Kids on Sunday, May 23, and the San Lorenzo Valley High School awards night, where it awarded two $1,000 scholarships.
Members will participate in the Felton Remembers Parade on May 29; CASA’s fifth annual Pajaro Valley Community Awards on June 2, when SLV Rotary will receive an organization award; a Habitat for Humanity painting party on June 19; and dining at Felton’s Oak Tree Ristorante, 5447 Highway 9, on June 24, with a percentage of the evening dinner cost to go to the club.

The SLV Rotary Club meets at 7:15 a.m. Wednesdays in the Birch Dining Room on Conference Drive at Mount Hermon Conference Center. Cost is $10.
Exchange Club of Scotts Valley
Lt. John Wilson of the Scotts Valley Police Department will pass president’s duties to Chris Perri of Apple Homes Development. Chris will begin organizing the annual Fun Golf Tournament, scheduled for Sept. 10 at the Valley Gardens golf course in Scotts Valley.
The annual Search for Talent competition sent three winners to the regional contest, and the senior contestant won her division and will go on to the finals at the California-Hawaii-Nevada District convention in Irvine this summer.
The club’s Blue and Gold Banquet honored firefighter of the year, Chris Studendorff, and Police Employee of the year, Officer Jamie Gauthier, for their outstanding service during calendar year 2009. The banquet was held at the Scotts Valley Community Center.
The club meets each Wednesday at noon at the Hilton Santa Cruz-Scotts Valley, 6001 La Madrona Drive.
