Scotts Valley Host Lions
The Scotts Valley Host Lions Club will host its 11th annual Charity Golf Tournament on Oct. 1
at the Boulder Creek Golf & Country Club.
Tee-off time will be at 1:30 p.m., followed by a barbecue raffle. Proceeds will benefit Youth & Community/Sight & Hearing Foundations.

The club meets at the Scotts Valley Senior Center at 7 a.m. Tuesdays, with the exception of the second Tuesday of each month, when the meeting begins at 6:30 p.m.
Rotary Club of Scotts Valley
Scotts Valley Rotarians were up at the crack of dawn July 5 with Save our Shores. The group cleaned up more than 700 pounds of trash after the Fourth of July.
Inspired by a speaker from the county, Rotarians have begun collecting new and gently used suitcases, backpacks, and duffel bags for children in foster care. Currently, when abused children are removed from their homes, they pack up their belongings in trash bags.
Next, the club will work with Scotts Valley High School’s Interact Club on a clothing and gift certificate drive for foster kids.
The club’s fifth annual Oktoberfest will again feature the world famous band The Internationals, with authentic Oktoberfest dancers. Oktoberfest will be from 2 to 7 p.m. Sept. 19 at the Scotts Valley Community Center. Admission is $10, and traditional Bavarian food and beer will be available. Tickets will go on sale soon.
The club meets from 12:15 to 1:30 p.m. Mondays at the Scotts Valley Hilton. Lunch is at noon and costs $16.
Kiwanis Club of Scotts Valley
Kiwanis hosted the 2010 debut of Music in the Park on June 27 at Skypark. The concert featured Mike Hadley and the Groove. The July 25 concert featured Houserockers. A concert is also planned the last Sunday of August. Vendors provide barbecue, pizza, ice cream, wine, beer and sodas at each concert and contribute the proceeds to local charities.
Kiwanis set up the children’s carnival games at Skypark for Scotts Valley Fourth of July celebration. Each child who played won a prize, and proceeds went toward scholarships.
On Aug. 11, the club will meet at 6 p.m. at the Hilton. The July evening meeting featured scholarship winner Trevor Romele. This month’s speaker will be scholarship winner Laura Wolf.
The club meets 7 a.m. Wednesdays at Heavenly Café, 1270 Mount Hermon Road (cost $5), except the second Wednesday, which is a 6 p.m. meeting at the Scotts Valley Hilton. Cost is $20. For information: www.svkiwanis.org.
Santa Cruz Moose Lodge 545
On July 4, lodge members helped the Santa Cruz Military Officers Association raise and lowering about 400 flags at the cemetery on Paul Sweet Road for the Avenue of Flags display. The original casket flags were flown on the Fourth of July in honor of deceased veterans.
Members reconstructed the damaged service club sign entering Scotts Valley on Mount Hermon Road before Scotts Valley Drive. Monetary donations were received from other service clubs to help with the cost.
A group of lodge members participated in a motorcycle run and visited the Monterey Moose Lodge and San Juan Bautista on Saturday, July 17.
On July 23, the Women of the Moose prepared a “Christmas in July” benefit dinner. Half of the dinner sales, proceeds of the raffle and canned
food was collected and donated to Valley Churches United Missions.

SLV Rotary Club
On July 7, the 2010-11 club president, Priscilla Weiss, was installed. During the last weekend in July and first weekend in August, members of the club will volunteer at Roaring Camp’s Day Out with Thomas.
Scheduled speaker for August are Aug. 4: RYLA campers; Aug. 11: Brian Liddicoat of South Pacific Coast Railroad; Aug. 18: No meeting; Aug. 19: New Teacher Breakfast at Quail Hallow Elementary School and August 25: Ralph Miljanich relates his travels to Peru.
The club meets at 7:15 a.m. Wednesdays in Birch Dining Room on Conference Drive in Mount Hermon Conference Center. Cost is $10.
