Scotts Valley Rotary
The Scotts Valley Rotarians joined four other Rotary districts in the Walk for Polio in San Francisco on Sunday, Oct. 24. Rotary International President Ray Klinginsmith led thousands of Rotarians from Pier 39 to the Ferry Building, which was lit with the message “End polio now,” all in capital letters.
Thanks to the efforts of Rotarian Jill Hitchman and her son Will, Scotts Valley Middle School now has an Interact Club. The high school club has been active for years. Interact is an international Rotarian organization of service clubs for young people that fosters leadership and responsible citizenship and promotes international understanding and peace.
Scotts Valley Rotary meets at 12:15 p.m. Mondays at the Hilton Santa Cruz-Scotts Valley, 6001 La Madrona Drive. Dates and a complete list of upcoming speakers can be found on the club’s website, http://scottsvalleyrotary.org.
San Lorenzo Valley Rotary Club
All Area 7 Rotary Clubs are gearing up for two Guatemala hospital projects. A group will travel to Guatemala City and Atitlán in November to investigate other ways the clubs can get involved.
Upcoming speakers: Nov. 3, Partner in Service from Nigeria; Nov. 10, Cynthia Fitzgerald from Faces of Hope; Nov. 17, Tom Hall of Cupertino Rotary, District 501c3 Foundation; Nov. 24, no meeting.
The club meets at 7:15 a.m. Wednesdays in the Birch Dining Room on Conference Drive at Mount Hermon Conference Center. Cost: $10.
Kiwanis Club of Scotts Valley
The club has elected the Scotts Valley Chamber of Commerce as its Organization of 2010, primarily for the group’s sponsorship of Music in the Park. Planning has already begun on Music at Skypark 2011.
On Oct. 9, Kiwanis installed its new officers. The Circle-K club, a Kiwanis affiliate, from University of California, Santa Cruz, joined the club on the Rio del Mar beach. Kiwanis lieutenant governor Donna Woodruff talked about district-wide activities during the club’s regular meeting.
Kiwanians will meet at 6 p.m. Nov. 11, at the Hilton Santa Cruz-Scotts Valley, 6001 La Madrona Drive, in Scotts Valley ($20). Kiwanis meets other Wednesdays at 7 a.m. at Heavenly Café, 1270 Mount Hermon Road ($5). Those interested in the charitable work of Kiwanis are welcome to attend.

Exchange Club of Scotts Valley
Lou Shelton, president of Bethany University, gave an excellent talk in September, and the club hosted a voter forum of those running for the Scotts Valley School Board in October. The club has an interesting speaker each month. Light refreshments are served.
The club meets the fourth Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. in the Scotts Valley Senior Center, 370 Kings Village Road, in Scotts Valley.
