Rotary Club of San Lorenzo Valley
The club delivered dictionaries to all third- and fourth-grade classes at San Lorenzo Valley and Boulder Creek elementary schools in December. During a holiday lunch, Rotarians collected money to buy cloth diapers for two Guatemala hospitals. They will be distributed in February by a team of Rotarians from Santa Cruz County. The club’s once-a-year speech contest with students from San Lorenzo Valley High will be Jan. 26.

The SLV Rotary Club meets at 7:15 a.m. Wednesdays in the Birch Dining Room at Mount Hermon Conference Center. Cost is $10.
Scotts Valley Host Lions
The Scotts Valley Host Lions Club helped donate more than 20 bike helmets to Valley Churches United Missions’ Christmas project.
The club will have its 41st annual Crab Cioppino Feed and Dance on March 5. For tickets: Karen Shipley, 429-2017.
The Lions meet at 6:30 p.m. the second Tuesday and at 7 a.m. the fourth Tuesday of each month at the Scotts Valley Senior Center, 370 Kings Village Road, in Scotts Valley. Visitors are welcome.
Scotts Valley Rotary
Scotts Valley Rotarians, headed by Jill Hitchman and Mike McMurry, planted 14 trees at Scotts Valley High School so students will have a little respite from the sun. Interact club members from the high school and middle school joined Rotarians, with a total of 35 people planting trees Dec. 5.
Rotarian Patti Malone headed up the effort to raise money for Valley Churches United Missions by raffling off Christmas trees at several local banks.
The club had a great Christmas party at the home of Rotarian Ron Sekkel, culminating in a white elephant gift exchange.

Kiwanis Club of Scotts Valley
The Kiwanis Club had a joyous Christmas season. The club prepared gifts for about 80 Little Brothers and Little Sisters through the Big Brothers-Big Sisters program and distributed them at a luncheon at Shadowbrook.
The club hosted its annual Christmas breakfast at Pasatiempo on Dec. 8. Sixty-five Kiwanians and guests attended the colorful event. They were entertained with carols by the Scotts Valley High School choir and treated to a buffet breakfast and a lively auction run by GiniLu Robinson.
At the breakfast, a collection was taken up for VCUM, and more than $800 was raised.
Kiwanis meets at 6 p.m. the second Wednesday of each month at Hilton Santa Cruz-Scotts Valley, 6001 La Madrona Drive, and at 7 a.m. all other Wednesdays at Heavenly Café, 1270 Mount Hermon Road ($5). Those interested in the charitable work of Kiwanis are welcome.

Santa Cruz Moose Lodge 545
SC Moose Lodge members prepared and served a prime rib dinner with Valley Churches United Missions on Dec. 3. Half the dinner sales, plus donated food, toys, dessert sales and raffle proceeds, benefited the nonprofit.
The ladies of the lodge prepared and sold flan Dec. 12, giving 100 percent of the sale proceeds to the Familia Center in Santa Cruz.
On Dec. 18, members prepared and delivered hams, bean casseroles and pies to the Santa Cruz Mental Health Client Action Network for its holiday party. They also donated personal hygiene items that were given as holiday gifts.
During the month, members also donated time and money to Meals on Wheels, Second Harvest Food Bank, Mooseheart Charities and others.
