Scotts Valley Exchange Club
Annette Hunt of Skov Vineyards, her new winery, spoke at the monthly meeting. She gave a history of wine making in the area and discussed the Santa Cruz Mountains appellation, what the region is known for in regard to grape growing, the climate and the prevalent soil types.
Kiwanis Club of Scotts Valley
Kiwanis is preparing for Music at Skypark 2011. Committees are forming for sponsorships, advertising and publicity and vendor registration. Volunteers interested in those areas are encouraged to visit the club’s website or send e-mail.
Kiwanis is soliciting applications for the Mike Smith Scholarship and the Grabill Scholarship. All graduating high school seniors are eligible for the Smith scholarship, and Key Club participants can apply for the Grabill award. Information is available online and through guidance counselors.
Kiwanis now meets at the Hilton Scotts Valley, 6001 La Madrona Drive. The second Wednesday (Feb. 9) is a dinner meeting ($20). All other Wednesdays, the group meets for breakfast at 7 a.m. ($1 plus individual tabs).

Rotary Club of San Lorenzo Valley
The speech contest for the club took place Wednesday, Jan. 26, at San Lorenzo Valley High School. The winner will advance to the Area 7 Speech Contest, which will begin at at 7:15 a.m. Feb. 22 at the Sunrise Rotary Club meeting at De Laveaga Golf Course Clubhouse, 401 Upper Park Road, in Santa Cruz.
One member of the local club will tour Guatemala to deliver all the goods that were collected and sent there in a container for two hospitals, some schools and an orphanage.
Dine for SLV Rotary Club at Oak Tree Ristorante on Feb. 10. A percentage of the diner’s tabs will come back to the Club.

Scotts Valley Host Lions
The Scotts Valley Host Lions Club helped with Valley Churches United Missions’ holiday food drive. The club also celebrated its 40th year charter anniversary at the new Bruno’s BBQ in Scotts Valley.
The Lions Club will host its 41st annual Crab Cioppino Feed and Dance on March 5. This event is huge and can sell out.

The Lions, a charity group, meets at 6:30 p.m. the second Tuesday of each month, and at 7 a.m. the fourth Tuesday at Scotts Valley Senior Center, 370 Kings Village Road.
Santa Cruz Moose Lodge 545
Members are organizing and making preparations for the 100th birthday party bash during the weekend of April 1. The Santa Cruz Moose Lodge was incorporated April 2, 1911, as Lodge No. 545. The special occasion will be celebrated with a special member enrollment following a prime rib dinner April 1, a Friday night. The following day, members will enjoy a catered dinner and dance. And, finally, April 3, a breakfast will be served by lodge members to start off a day of family activities.
A cash donation was approved and made to the “Soquel Grad Night” fund. Members also donated time and money to Meals on Wheels and Mooseheart Charities.

Rotary Club of Scotts Valley
Rotary International is close to achieving its goal of a polio-free world. The Rotary Club of Scotts Valley has started a spare-change fundraising effort. The club hopes to donate $2,000 to the cause. More information is at www.rotary.org.
On Jan. 15, the club partnered with Save our Shores for a beach clean-up. Together, they removed more than 45 pounds of trash from local beaches.
