Kiwanis Club of Scotts Valley
The application period for the Mike Smith and Grabill scholarships recently closed. Scholarships will be awarded at the year-end assemblies.
On March 12, the club joined forces with Surf City Kiwanis and painted the interior of the Scotts Valley Community Center.
The club is preparing for Music at Skypark 2011. Club members have material for potential sponsors and will approach local businesses in the next month. Sponsorship is an opportunity to support the community and promote business.
Kiwanis meets at the Hilton Santa Cruz-Scotts Valley, 6001 La Madrona Drive. The second Wednesday of the month (April 13) is a dinner meeting ($20). All other Wednesdays, club members meet for breakfast at 7 a.m. ($1 plus individual tabs).

Scotts Valley Exchange Club
The club hosted the Search for Talent on Saturday, March 19, at the Bethany University Theater. The winner has a chance to go on to national competition.
The club’s next major event is the Blue & Gold Dinner on May 6, honoring a police officer and firefighter of the year. The club is looking for sponsors.
Club members will barbecue at the July Music at Skypark event.
The club meets at 5:30 p.m. the fourth Wednesday of each month at the Scotts Valley Senior Center, 360 Kings Village Road. Upcoming speakers include Habitat for Humanity, April 27, and Santa Cruz County Supervisor Mark Stone, May 25.
Scotts Valley Rotary
Put on your poodle skirt, roll up your sleeves and come out for a fun evening of dinner, dancing and a live auction to benefit children. June 3 is the annual Bids for Kids ’50s Summer Nights at the Scotts Valley Community Center, 360 Kings Village Road. The club’s goal is to raise $30,000 to benefit youth. Tickets are $40.
The club also has a beach cleanup with Save-our-Shores on April 16 and its annual Scholarship Award Banquet on May 9.
The club meets at 12:15 p.m. Mondays at the Hilton Santa Cruz-Scotts Valley, 6001 La Madrona Drive.

Rotary Club of San Lorenzo Valley
The club is planning three community projects: cleanup, repair and spring planting at Ben Lomond Fountain; weeding at Felton Community Hall; and weeding and cleanup of the center-divide island on Mount Hermon Road.
Speakers for April are Gil Gunn on the history of the San Lorenzo Valley Rotary Club, April 6; Michael Watkins of the Santa Cruz County Office of Education, April 13; Christina Horvath, Boulder Creek Recreation District, April 20; and Nancy Macy, director of SLV Redemption and Recycling, April 27,.
The club meets at 7:15 a.m. Wednesdays in the Birch Dining Room on Conference Drive at Mount Hermon Conference Center. Cost is $10.
Santa Cruz Moose Lodge 545
Moose members enjoyed a traditional corned beef and cabbage dinner Friday, March 18, to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day.
Several lodge officers will attend the California-Nevada Moose Association Convention in Reno, which started Thursday, March 24.
March community service projects included Adopt-A-Highway and Moose Charities. Upcoming events include a night club comedy evening with The Comedy Machine on Saturday, March 26, and the lodge’s 100th birthday party celebration during the weekend of April 1 through 3.
