Scotts Valley Exchange Club
The national Exchange club is celebrating its 100th year, and the Scotts Valley Club is in its 40th year. The club’s purpose is to promote Americanism, community service and the prevention of child abuse.
Scotts Valley Exchange Club will host its blue and gold dinner at 6 p.m. Friday, May 6, at the Scotts Valley Community Center, 360 Kings Village Road. Scotts Valley’s police officer and firefighter of the year will be honored for their service.
The club is organizing the annual bocce tournament between the four service clubs of Scotts Valley.
The club will also barbecue during Music at Skypark on July 31.
Exchange club meetings begin at 5:30 p.m. the fourth Wednesday of each month in the senior center, 360 Kings Village Road, in Scotts Valley. Supervisor Mark Stone will speak May 25. All are welcome.
Kiwanis Club of Scotts Valley
Eight applications were received for the Mike Smith Scholarship and the Grabill Scholarship by the close of the application period.
The club is preparing for Music at Skypark 2011. Club members have material for potential sponsors and will approach local businesses this month. The first week of the campaign has netted 40 percent subscribed. For information about sponsorships: Kiwanis, 438-4506.
Kiwanis meets Wednesdays at the Hilton Santa Cruz-Scotts Valley, 6001 La Madrona Drive. The second Wednesday of each month (May 11) is a 6 p.m. dinner meeting ($20). All other Wednesdays, the group meets for breakfast at 7 a.m. ($1, plus individual tabs).

Santa Cruz Moose Lodge 545
On April 1, Moose members celebrated the lodge’s 100th birthday with a prime rib dinner. The Scotts Valley Police and Fire departments were presented with Tommy Moose dolls to help comfort children during emergency situations. Scotts Valley Mayor Dene Bustichi and Supervisor John Leopold, guest speakers, presented the lodge with proclamations.
The 100th celebration continued April 2 with a catered barbecue dinner from Scotts Valley Market and a dance with music from the Hot Rods Band.
Seven members participated in the Big Brother, Big Sister Bowling for Kid’s Sake and raised about $1,300.
New officers were appointed April 29.

Scotts Valley Rotary
Scotts Valley Rotary has welcomed three new members, Don Odermann, Jackie Maurer and Darren DeMonsi. Jimmie Brewer was awarded the Unsung Hero award for all his behind-the-scenes work on organizational development in the district. Rotarians and Interactors (members of Rotary’s high school club) celebrated Earth Day with a beach cleanup at Seabright Beach with Save our Shores. The middle school Interact Club celebrated Earth Week with different activities each day to learn more about the environment.
The club invites folks to join in June 3 for the annual Bids for Kids ’50s Summer Nights at the Scotts Valley Community Center, 360 Kings Village Road. The goal is to raise $30,000 to benefit youth. Tickets are $40. For information: www.scottsvalleyrotary.org.
The club meets at 12:15 p.m. Mondays at the Hilton Santa Cruz-Scotts Valley, 6001 La Madrona Drive. A speaker schedule is available on the club’s website. Guests are welcome.
Rotary Club of San Lorenzo Valley
The club’s food drive at Ben Lomond Market for Valley Churches United Missions was a success and helped the nonprofit’s food pantry.
On May 18, the club will dine at Scopazzi’s Restaurant in Boulder Creek, instead of meeting in the morning. A percentage of the tab will go back to the club.
May speakers: May 11, Michael Watkins of the Santa Cruz County Office of Education; May 18, dinner at Scopazzi’s; May 25, Mark Stone, Fifth District supervisor.
The SLV Rotary Club meets at 7:15 a.m. Wednesdays in the Birch Dining Room on Conference Drive at Mount Hermon Conference Center. Cost is $10.
