Scotts Valley Rotary Club
The ’50s Summer Nights Bid for Kids sock hop, dinner and auction was a huge success, raising more than $19,500 to help Scotts Valley High School student Kendra Kannegaard.
Funds were also raised to support the community and international club projects and the Interact clubs at the middle and high schools.
Rotarians hosted visitors from India in an International Friendship Exchange. Rotarians from the U.S. and India had the opportunity to learn more about the cultures of the other country.
The Rotary year is coming to an end, and club members will welcome Randy Klein of the Tutoring Club of Scotts Valley as the new president July 1.

Kiwanis Club of Scotts Valley
Kiwanis is preparing for Music at Skypark 2011.
At this point, $12,750 has been pledged, with $1,500 more “in the mail” from a total of 26 civic-minded sponsors. Each sponsor gets name recognition on a stage banner behind the band.
The first concert will be Sunday, June 26, featuring the Kaye Bohler Band and opening with Mike Annuzzi. The concert starts at 3 p.m. and is free, with proceeds from concessions raising money for school music programs.
Kiwanis meets Wednesdays at the Hilton Santa Cruz-Scotts Valley, 6001 La Madrona Drive. The second Wednesday, July 13, is a dinner meeting ($20). All other Wednesdays the club meets for breakfast at 7 a.m. ($1, plus individual tab).

Santa Cruz Moose Lodge 545:
On Friday, June 17, the guest speaker for the lodge’s enrollment ceremony was Fred Reikelt, California-Nevada Moose Association president. Reikelt presented a plaque to the lodge for its 100th birthday. Al Moreland, Golden Spot Legion 15 secretary, also attended as a guest.
Lodge members placed and removed flags to honor deceased veterans at the Oakwood Memorial Park on Memorial Day and will do so again July 4.
Ladies of the lodge prepared the Father’s Day Breakfast on Sunday, June 19, for members and their families. On Saturday, June 25, members will pick up trash at their “Adopt-A-Highway” location on the Pasatiempo off-ramp.
