Exchange Club of Scotts Valley
The Exchange Club hosted its annual Golf Tournament fundraiser Sept. 8 at Valley Gardens Golf Course.
The winning team consisted of John Swedlund, Bruce White, Mike Licon and Phil Pabich. Closest woman to the hole was Pat McDonald, and closest man to the hole was Todd Creamer. Longest woman’s drive went to Donna Lind, and for men, it was Bob Paul.
The Exchange Club of Scotts Valley is 40 years old this year and has been helping the community with community projects and support of child-abuse prevention.
The club meets for a business meeting the second Wednesday of each month at Mint, 4652 Scotts Valley Drive, and the fourth Wednesday of the month at the new library, 251 Kings Village Road, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Hors d’oeuvres and drinks are served, with a guest speaker each month. The public is encouraged to join in.

Scotts Valley Host Lions
The Lions participated in Music at Skypark by serving pulled pork and chicken parfaits and the club’s signature garlic bread. Participation earned about $500 that was donated to the schools via the Scotts Valley Educational Foundation.
Veterans Affairs held its South Bay Stand Down for homeless veterans the weekend of Sept. 10, and the club took in the Lions’ health screening trailer. Three ophthalmologists performed 73 eye exams for military veterans and issued vouchers for prescription eyeglasses. The club also purchased reading glasses and distributed 85 pairs to participants.
The club’s annual golf tournament at Boulder Creek Country Club was a great success. The club also served pancakes to 150 runners and volunteers as part of the 5-kilometer Bean Creek Run. Food and labor were donated to the event. The club also continues to serve lunches twice a month at the Scotts Valley Senior Center.

Scotts Valley Rotary Club
Local Rotarians have been busy planning their annual Oktoberfest. This year, it will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Oct. 8, a Saturday, at Malone’s Grille, 4402 Scotts Valley Drive. This fun-filled event will feature the authentic Oktoberfest band Internationals, Spaten beer, German food, a live auction, a costume contest and the chicken dance. Tickets are available for $5, and proceeds benefit local charities.
The club meets at 12:15 p.m. Mondays at the Hilton Santa Cruz-Scotts Valley, 6001 La Madrona Drive.

SLV Rotary Club
The Club will help with the Second Harvest Food Bank barrel wrap from 7:30 to 11 a.m. Oct. 15 in Watsonville.
Speakers for October: Oct. 5, Dave Burns, director of adult ministries at Mount Hermon; Oct. 12, Arley Marley, district governor; Oct. 19, TBD; and Oct. 26, Joe Busa, Ken Clouse and Gil Gunn on SLV Rotary’s legacy.
Club meetings begin at 7:15 a.m. Wednesdays in the Birch Dining Room on Conference Drive at Mount Hermon Conference Center. Cost is $10.
Kiwanis Club of Scotts Valley
Kiwanis hosted the final Music at Skypark concert Sunday, Sept. 25. The concert featured the local band Le Strange and opened with My Stupid Brother. The August concert was Extra-Large, opening with A La Lune.
To support its charitable activities Kiwanis rents tents and a moveable stage to other community organizations. The club is planning a hoedown and western chuck wagon dinner for Nov. 19 at the Scotts Valley Senior Center.
Kiwanis now meets at Bruno’s BBQ in the Kings Village Shopping Center. The club meets for breakfast at 7 a.m. Wednesday ($1 plus individual tabs) and for dinner at 6:30 p.m. the second Wednesday of each month ($5 plus individual tabs).
