SLV Rotary Club
Six members of the club were at Second Harvest Food Bank on Oct. 15, where, with other members of Santa Cruz County Rotary Clubs and Interact Clubs, they wrapped 800 barrels for the Holiday Food Drive.
Speakers for November: Nov. 2, Ron Sekkel, past Rotary district governor, on “The Past, Present and Future Vision of the Rotary Foundation”; Nov. 9, Peter Heylin on “My Experience with Polio”; Nov. 16, to be announced; Nov. 23, no meeting; Nov. 30, Jim and Marie Sikora on “Saving Lives from Polio in Ghana.”
The club meets at 7:15 a.m. Wednesdays in Birch Dining Room on Conference Drive, Mount Hermon Conference Center. Cost is $10.
Scotts Valley Host Lions Club
The Lions hosted a successful golf tournament at Boulder Creek Country Club on Sept. 16. The club also completed its annual White Cane Day Fundraiser, as Lions collected donations from residents and businesses in the Scotts Valley area. All the money raised will provide eyeglasses and exams for local people.
The club approved a resident to be fitted with a hearing aid through the Lions’ “Ear of the Lion” program.
The club continues to serve lunches through the Scotts Valley Senior Center twice a month and hosted its first Bocce Ball tournament at Skypark on Sept. 15. The Bocce Amigos took first, and the Hot Shots came in second. The net proceeds were put toward the cost of Playaway audiobooks donated to Scotts Valley Branch Library.
Kiwanis Club of Scotts Valley:
Kiwanis will participate in the Nov.19 Valley Churches United Missions food drive by staffing the pickup point at the Felton Safeway. The club will accept non-perishable items and gift certificates for delivery to VCUM’s food distribution pantry from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Kiwanis now meets at Bruno’s BBQ, 230-G Mount Hermon Road, in the Kings Village Shopping Center. The club meets for breakfast at 7 a.m. Wednesdays, except the second Wednesday of each month, when members meet for dinner at 6 p.m. There is a $1 club fee, plus restaurant charges.
At the next evening meeting, the club will honor the sponsors of the Music at Skypark program and present a check to the Scotts Valley Unified School District music program. The public is invited, but reservations are required. The 6 p.m. buffet dinner is $10.

Scotts Valley Rotary
More than 400 people attended the Oktoberfest celebration at Malone’s Grille on Oct. 8. The club thanked Malone’s for sponsoring the event.
Rotarians traveled to San Jose for the club’s annual Avenues of Service program to learn new ways to serve locally and internationally.
The club will work with Helping Hands to assist two local senior families who need assistance with minor repairs to their homes.
In addition, the club has begun work on phase two of its Guatemala hospital project. This time, club members will equip the hospital, which serves the poor Mayan population, with much-needed diagnostic equipment.

Santa Cruz Moose Lodge 545
A holiday boutique will be held at the Moose Lodge on Nov. 12. The public is invited, and proceeds from a raffle will benefit the Walnut Avenue Women’s Center. Proceeds from the sale of food and beverages will benefit Moose charities.
Members volunteered time at the Monte Foundation Fireworks on Oct. 7 by working an entrance gate. In September, members and their families participated in and raised donations for the Alzheimer’s Walk. The Scotts Valley Police Department was given two dozen “Tommy Moose” dolls and coloring books by the lodge to help children in stressful emergency situations.
The Moose Lodge supports the Felton 4-H Club, Valley Churches United Missions, Meals on Wheels and the Adopt-A-Highway program.
