Scotts Valley Host Lions
The club had an interesting presentation from Habitat for Humanity, in which members learned that Habitat has started construction on local homes. The club looks forward to helping with the building.
Lions members serve lunches provided by Meals on Wheels at the Scotts Valley Senior Center on Wednesdays twice a month. Club members recently traveled to Vallejo and attended a series of leadership training seminars.
Preparations have begun for the club’s annual Crab Cioppino Feed, to be held March 3.
The club meets at the Scotts Valley Senior Center, 370 Kings Village Road, at 6:30 p.m. the second Tuesday of the month and at 7 a.m. the fourth Tuesday. All are welcome.

Kiwanis Club of Scotts Valley
The Kiwanis Club, the local high school Key clubs and University of California, Santa Cruz’s Circle K clubs have begun to buy gifts and wrap them for the Big Brothers-Big Sisters Christmas party. Eighty “Littles” will each receive a gift from Dr. John “Santa” Stevens and his elves. Each year, Shadowbrook generously hosts the party to distribute the gifts and serves lunch, followed by a generous ice cream bar.
The club is also preparing for its annual Christmas breakfast at Pasatiempo. It will begin at 7:30 a.m. Dec. 14. The cost is $20. For information or reservations, contact any Kiwanian or email sv****@*****st.net.
The club meets at 7 a.m. Wednesdays at Bruno’s BBQ, 230-G Mount Hermon Road, in Scotts Valley. Those interested in the charitable work of Kiwanis are welcome to attend.

Scotts Valley Rotary
The Interact Club of Scotts Valley High School was honored by the Scotts Valley Chamber of Commerce for the Beautification Project of the Year. The club planted trees at Scotts Valley High School. As the trees mature, they will provide much-needed shade for the campus.
Rotarians toured the new Scotts Valley library and were proud to see the media wall the club sponsored.

Santa Cruz Moose Lodge 545
The district social was hosted by the lodge Nov. 5. A dinner of tri-tip and scalloped potatoes was served, followed by reports from all of the lodges in the district.
On Veterans Day, Nov. 11, members assisted in placing and removing the more than 400 flags displayed at the cemetery on Paul Sweet Road in honor of deceased veterans. The lodge later honored its members who served our country by giving them a free dinner.
Santa Cruz’s Moose Lodge received the Gold Premier Award and the Community Service Award for the fiscal year 2010-11 from Moose International for the hard work and dedication of its members.
Also, the Santa Cruz police chief and Santa Cruz Fire Engine No. 3110 received Tommy Moose dolls to help children in emergency situations.
On Dec, 2, the lodge will host its annual holiday dinner, with a canned food and toy drive to benefit Valley Churches United Missions.

SLV Rotary Club
The club has a fine list of speakers in December. On Dec. 7, Linda Fawcett will speak about “Linda & Joe’s Excellent Adventures”; on Dec. 14, Eric Hammer, a candidate for 5th District Supervisor, will meet with the group; and on Dec. 21, the club will have a holiday lunch at 12:15 p.m. in the Ivy Dining Room at Mount Hermon ($15). There will be no meeting Dec. 28.
The club meets at 7:15 a.m. Wednesdays, unless otherwise noted, in the Birch Dining Room on Conference Drive at the Mount Hermon Conference Center. Cost is $10
