Scotts Valley Rotary
The club is planning its annual Scholarship Awards Dinner at the Mount Hermon Conference Center on May 30. Awards are given to students who distinguish themselves in scholastic performance, performing arts, visual arts and community service in sixth through 12th grades. Five scholarships are awarded to college-bound seniors. The students will speak about their plans for the future.  President-designee Carrie Birkhofer and Bay Federal Credit Union have organized this event.
The club received a second-place prize in a contest among Santa Cruz County Rotary Clubs for collecting food for the Second Harvest Food Bank.
Coming up, many Rotarians will attend the Rotary International Convention in Bangkok, Thailand from May 5 to 9.
The club meets at 12:15 p.m. Mondays at the Scotts Valley Hilton, 6001 La Madrona Drive.

Scotts Valley Exchange
The club will host its annual Firefighter and Police Officer of the Year awards dinner Friday, May 4, at the Scotts Valley Community Center, 360 Kings Village Road. This special event honors the first responders who protect the community. The club is accepting donations for the event to keep costs down for the officers and firefighters.
The club also had its Search for Talent show at the Bethany College Theater, and it was a success with 20 participants. Cash trophies were awarded.
The Scotts Valley Exchange club meets at noon the second Wednesday of each month at Mint, 4652 Scotts Valley Drive, Ste. 103, for its business meeting and from 5:30 to 7 p.m. the fourth Wednesday of each month for our special guest mixer at the Scotts Valley Branch Library, 251 Kings Village Road. The public is encouraged to attend.

Kiwanis Club of Scotts Valley
Kiwanis is preparing to host a Cinco de Mayo Festival to support many charities it supports. The club contributes to Valley Churches United Missions, Big Brothers-Big Sisters and youth leadership programs. The club also provides scholarships.
The Cinco de Mayo dinner is from 6 to 10 p.m. May 5 at the Scotts Valley Community Center, 360 Kings Village Road. Tickets will cost $25 ($12 for children 12 and younger) for a Mexican dinner from Taqueria Los Gallos, games and salsa dancing with instruction.
The club is also organizing for Music at Skypark 2012. Sponsorships are being actively sought and information is being disseminated to the community. 
Kiwanis has an evening meeting at 6 p.m. the second Wednesday of each month ($5 plus menu selection) and at 7 a.m. Wednesdays. All meetings are at Bruno’s BBQ, 230-G Mount Hermon Road. Those interested in the charitable work of Kiwanis are welcome to attend.

Scotts Valley Host Lions
The club continues to serve lunches at the Scotts Valley Senior Center twice a month.
Club members braved traffic to clean their adopted section of Highway 17 in Scotts Valley last month.
The club was contacted by a resident in San Lorenzo Valley who needed immediate eye surgery. The club approved sponsoring him to have the procedure at Lions Eye Foundation in San Francisco.
The Lions’ annual Golf Tournament is set for Sept. 14 at Boulder Creek Golf Club, 16901 Big Basin Way, in Boulder Creek.
The Scotts Valley Lions will also host a bocce tournament Oct. 7 at Skypark.

Santa Cruz Moose Lodge No. 545
The Moose Legion Golden Spot District No. 15 had its awards dinner April 14, and members within the district received certificates of appreciation for volunteer work during the past year. The club offers congratulations to S.C. Moose No. 545 member, Vince Martinez, who received the Legionnaire of the Year award for his outstanding work.
The 2012-13 board of officers will be installed during an afternoon ceremony Sunday, April 29, with a potluck lunch to follow.
Three teams of five will bowl in the Santa Cruz County Big Brother-Big Sister Bowl for Kid’s Sake event at the Boardwalk Bowl on Saturday, April 28. Each member is busy raising sponsorship money.
On May 5, the lodge will host the District Social, including executive board meetings with a dinner and social time to follow.
The Moose Lodge also recently supported Moose Charities, Valley Churches United Missions, Meals on Wheels and the Adopt-A-Highway program.
