Scotts Valley Exchange Club
Scotts Valley Exchange recently hosted its annual Police Officer and Firefighter of the Year awards banquet. More than 100 officers and firefighters were in attendance, as well as many city officials and dignitaries, and awards were presented. Scotts Valley police officer Brandon Polito and firefighter Armando Cortes were honored for their service.
The club is working on a scholarship for the most improved student of the year at Scotts Valley High School, to be awarded at graduation on June 6. The club is also preparing for its annual golf tournament in September. Teams of four are invited to play.
Exchange meets at noon the second Wednesday of each month at Mint, 4652 Scotts Valley Drive, and at noon the fourth Wednesday of each month at Scotts Valley Branch Library, 251 Kings Village Road, for an informative meeting with a guest speaker of local relevance. The public is encouraged to attend. Appetizers and drinks are served.

San Lorenzo Valley Rotary
On May 5, the club had a work day at Felton Community Hall and helped clean up the landscaping and planted new plants around the building. Another work day is planned for June 9. The club has undertaken this as an ongoing community project. 
The club awarded two $1,000 scholarships at the San Lorenzo Valley High School Senior Awards Night last week. In addition, three students from the high school will be sponsored for the Rotary Youth Leadership Award at YMCA Camp Campbell in Boulder Creek the week of June 12.

The SLV Rotary Club meets at 7:15 a.m. Wednesdays in the Birch Dining Room, 37 Conference Drive, at Mount Hermon Conference Center. Cost is $10.
Scotts Valley Host Lions
Scotts Valley Lions sponsored a lane for the Big Brothers Big Sisters Bowl For Kids Sake event and fielded a team of bowlers to support the organization. The club continues to serve lunches at the Scotts Valley Senior Center twice a month.
The club has again put together a team to participate in the Scotts Valley Recreation bocce league.
The club will participate in a Habitat for Humanity build day on July 21; its annual Golf Tournament on Sept. 14 at Boulder Creek Golf Course; and a bocce ball tournament at Skypark on Oct. 7.
The Lions meet at Scotts Valley Senior Center, 370 Kings Village Road, at 6:30 p.m. the second Tuesday and at 7 a.m. the fourth Tuesday of each month.

Kiwanis Club of Scotts Valley
Kiwanis hosted a Cinco de Mayo festival to support the many charities to which the club contributes. Attendees enjoyed themselves and said it was a successful event.
Kiwanis is organizing for Music at Skypark 2012 to support music programs in local schools. Sponsorships are being actively sought. Previous sponsors are being contacted directly, and information on the season is being disseminated in the community. The first free concert will be June 24, featuring the Joint Chiefs, a versatile and exciting dance band in the Northern California music scene. The 3:30 opener will be Ancestree.
Kiwanis has an evening meeting at 6 p.m. the second Wednesday of each month ($5 plus menu selection). The club meets at 7 a.m. other Wednesdays. All meetings are at Bruno’s BBQ, 230-G Mount Hermon Road. Those interested in the charitable work of Kiwanis are welcome to attend.
