Scotts Valley Exchange Club
The club is preparing for its annual golf tournament and fundraiser at Valley Gardens on Sept. 21, a Friday. Tee-off is at 8 a.m. The club’s major fundraiser includes a continental breakfast and a barbecue lunch prepared this year by Mike Pasquini and his crew. Everyone is invited to play.
The club meets at noon the second Wednesday of each month at Mint, 4652 Scotts Valley Drive, and from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. the last Wednesday of each month at Scotts Valley Library, 251 Kings Village Road.

Santa Cruz Moose No. 545
On July 4, Moose lodge members assisted the Santa Cruz Military Officers Association in raising and lowering about 400 flags at the cemetery on Paul Sweet Road in Santa Cruz. The original casket flags donated by families are displayed in honor of deceased veterans. Members and their families also enjoyed a barbecue to celebrate the holiday.
The fourth annual Pink Prom event was held at the lodge July 14. The benefit dance and silent auction raised money for the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer.
During the district legion conferral on July 15, three Moose members became legion members. Also, member Chris Grundy was recognized for receiving his fellowship degree at the Moose International Convention.
“Christmas in July” is the theme of a dinner Friday, July 27. The Women of the Moose will prepare a ham dinner. Half of the dinner sales, proceeds of the raffle and canned food collected during the event will be donated to Valley Churches United Missions.

Scotts Valley Host Lions Club
The club participated at two events July 4. In the morning, members placed American flags on the roadway at Santa Cruz Memorial Cemetery. In the afternoon, members sold apple pies to the community at Skypark. The net proceeds were donated to the Scotts Valley Parks and Recreation Advocates.
On July 13, the club had a successful fundraising event to help a local family in their struggle with Huntington’s disease.
Members also serve lunches twice a month at the Scotts Valley Senior Center.
On Saturday, July 21, the club joined together with Santa Cruz and Freedom clubs to host a Lions Build Day with Habitat for Humanity.
Scotts Valley Lions also participated in Backpacks for Kids, an effort in which Lions Clubs fill 3,000 new backpacks with school supplies and donate them to local organizations. The local club will give 20 backpacks to Valley Churches United Missions.
Kiwanis Club of Scotts Valley
The free Music at Skypark concert series organized by the Kiwanis to support music programs at the local schools continues at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, July 29, with West Grand Boulevard as the opening concert. The headliner, the Houserockers, will be featured at about 5 p.m.
The face of Kiwanis International changed forever 25 years ago. In the summer of 1987, delegates at the 72nd annual convention voted to allow women to join the organization. Today, women make up 26 percent of the organization’s total membership.
Kiwanis has evening meeting at 6 p.m. the second Wednesday of each month and at 7 a.m. all other Wednesdays. All meetings are at Bruno’s BBQ, 230-G Mount Hermon Road ($5). Those interested in the charitable work of Kiwanis are welcome to attend.

San Lorenzo Valley Rotary
The club has planned a work day in August at the Felton Community Hall, where members continue to weed and place new plants around the building as part of an ongoing project.
Club members will meet the new teachers and administrators of the San Lorenzo Valley School District at a breakfast honoring them Aug. 21, a Tuesday.

Scotts Valley Rotary
“A Cause to Celebrate” was a success, with more than 300 people in attendance. It was a joint fundraiser for Scotts Valley Rotary and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society sponsored by Slawinksi Auctions. Entertainment included an Elvis impersonator and Italian tenor Pasquale Esposito.
June 1 to 3, many Rotarians enjoyed a weekend in Squaw Valley while attending the club’s district celebration.
President Randy Klein ended his term June 25, and the club welcomed new president Cheryl Rebottaro.
