Kiwanis Club of Scotts Valley
On April 6, the club participated in the annual Kiwanis International Day of Service with a beautification effort at Scotts Valley High School.
The club was joined by Kiwanis-affiliated youth from University of California, Santa Cruz, Scotts Valley High School and members of the Santa Cruz Kiwanis Club to paint curbs, locker rooms and landscaping.
More than 30 participants volunteered nearly 50 hours of service.
In May, the club will award its Mike Smith and Grabill Scholarships to students who have achieved excellence in their high school careers.
In addition, the club continues to enlist sponsors and vendors for the fifth annual Music at Skypark summer concert series to benefit the music programs in local schools.
The club meets at 7 a.m. Wednesdays at Bruno’s BBQ, 230 Mount Hermon Road, in Scotts Valley, except for the second Wednesday of each month. That day’s meeting is at Bruno’s at 6:30 p.m.
All are welcome.
 
Exchange Club of Scotts Valley
The club has announced Ella Summers is the winner of the ACE awards for most-improved student at the Scotts Valley High School. The scholarship for the award will be presented May 22.
The club heard from guest speaker and local Exchange Club charter member Erik Johnson of Erik’s Deli, who spoke about his business, which started in Scotts Valley and spread throughout the county. He also shared about his trip to Mongolia.
The club hosts speakers from around the community and seeks new members who are interested in community service work.
Exchange meets on the second Wednesday of each month for lunch and business, and on the fourth Wednesday of each month for a social evening with appetizers and libations

San Lorenzo Valley Rotary Club
The club is holding a fundraiser that gives locals a chance to win a 1980 Fiat Spider convertible. Tickets are $10 and may be purchased from any club member or at www.slvrotaryclub.org. Proceeds benefit San Lorenzo Valley students in the form of scholarships for graduates, dictionaries, leadership camp and library books.
The car will be featured in the Felton Remembers Parade on May 25, and the drawing will be at the Covered Bridge Park following the parade.
The May meeting speakers will address water issues: Jim McKenna from the Resource Conservation District on May 1; Bill Kocher from Santa Cruz Water District on the subject of desalinization on May 8; Mike Cloud on the status of Santa Margarita Aquifer on May 15; Jim Mueller on the water district coordination on emergency tie-ins on May 22.
The club meets each at 7:15 a.m. Wednesdays in the Birch Dining Room at the Mount Hermon Conference Center, 37 Conference Drive in Mount Hermon.
Cost for breakfast is $10.
