Kiwanis of the Valleys
On Wednesday, Nov. 12, the Club hosted its annual Music at Skypark banquet at Bruno’s BBQ. This event honors the generous sponsors and vendors who participated in the concert series last summer.
A check for $20,000 was presented to Scotts Valley School District music director Beth Hollenbeck. The funds will be used to benefit the music program in our local public schools. The turnout at the banquet was huge, and the Scotts Valley Middle School choir performed to the delight of the attendees.
On Wednesday, Nov. 19, the Club partnered with its youth-sponsored high school Key Clubs and the UCSC Circle K club to purchase nearly 100 gifts at Kmart for the annual Big Brothers and Big Sisters holiday luncheon.
The same groups will join forces again at a gift-wrapping get-together on Thursday, Dec. 4.
Finally, on Saturday, Dec. 6, the Kiwanis’ official Santa (Dr. John A. Stevens) and his elves will distribute the gifts to the “littles” at the annual event held at Shadowbrook.
On Saturday, Nov. 22, club members helped with the set up of the Scotts Valley Education Foundation’s Christmas tree lot on Scotts Valley Drive. Club members will also pitch in to help with sales when the lot opens on Friday, Nov. 29.
The Kiwanis meet at 7 a.m. every Wednesday morning at Bruno’s BBQ. The second Wednesday of each month is an evening meeting at Bruno’s at 6:30 p.m. For more information, visit http://www.kiwanisofthevalleys.org/
Scotts Valley Rotary
Scotts Valley Rotary members donated money and food to Valley Churches United Missions this month. The club had to postpone its Bicycle Poker Ride because of rain. Keep your eyes open for the new date.
The club applauds Rosanna Herrera, a club member and owner of Bruno’s BBQ, for winning Scotts Valley Business of the Year. The Scotts Valley Rotary has started a book club which many members are enjoying the monthly meetings.
