Kiwanis of the Valleys
The Kiwanis of the Valleys has formed committees to begin the work of planning this coming summer’s Music at Skypark concert series. The band selection committee is already hard at work.
On Wednesday, Jan. 21, the club joined in the 100th anniversary celebration of Kiwanis International. On Feb. 15, club members will travel to Monterey for a special visit from the Kiwanis’ district governor.
Jan. 3rd was a work day for the club, as members work on refurbishment of the club’s much-used mobile stage to get it in tip-top shape for the many events to come in 2015.
The Kiwanis meet at 7 a.m. every Wednesday morning at Bruno’s Barbecue. The second Wednesday of each month is an evening meeting at Bruno’s at 6:30 p.m.

Valley Women’s Club
The Valley Women’s Club started the New Year with its board and officer elections. Lynn McKibbin has been re-elected President; new to their offices are Vice President Rosalind Alley, Secretary Pam Spehar, and Treasurer Mary Lanctot.
Also serving on the board are Peter Gelblum, Barbara Hanson, Steve Edmonds, Pamela Spehar, and Connie DeNault.
Several longtime members have retired from the board to focus on other areas of the Club or within the community; their dedication in time, energy and accomplishments are significant, and will be recognized in the upcoming e-Newsletter and on www.vwcweb.org.
A number of exciting things have happened in the past month. Thanks to a major grant from The Community Foundation, the VWC’s SLV Redemption/Recycling Centers purchased a Styrofoam “densifier.”
It just arrived and, once testing is completed, Styrofoam blocks will be accepted for recycling at the Ben Lomond Transfer Station, and will travel to the landfill and other sites to process their Styrofoam. 
The VWC participated on an environmental panel at the Jan. 14 informational workshop regarding the merger of the Lompico Water District and the SLV Water District.
The VWC strongly supports the merger as vital for the well-being of Lompico residents and for protection of the watershed and groundwater resources, and so encourages Lompico voters to support the merger in the upcoming election. 
The Redwood Mountain Faire is coming May 30-31, and planners are hard at work.
The date of the organization’s upcoming annual meeting, to which the public is invited, will be announced soon.
Scotts Valley Rotary
Scotts Valley Rotary is planning a community event for Saturday, May 9. It will be the First Annual Trivia Cup Challenge, to be held at Bruno’s Barbecue.
Would-be participants are encouraged to form a team, enjoy food and beverages, and win prizes.
The club meets every Monday upstairs at Bruno’s Barbecue from 12:15 to 1:30 p.m.
The club also has a book club that meets once a month. This month’s book is Moloka’i, a dazzling historical saga.
