Kiwanis of the Valleys
In January, the club had a work day to refurbish its mobile stage. The stage will be in top shape for the many local community events in which it will be utilized in 2015.
In early February, the club performed trash collection on the Scotts Valley section of southbound Highway 17.
The bands for this summer’s Music at Skypark have been finalized. The lineup is bigger and better than ever, and it will be announced soon.
The Kiwanis supported its Circle K UCSC youth group by participating in their casino night fundraiser on Friday, Feb. 20.
On Saturday, Feb. 28, members attended and handled registration duty at the Kiwanis’ district convention in Monterey.
The Kiwanis meet at 7 a.m. every Wednesday morning at Bruno’s BBQ. The second Wednesday of each month is an evening meeting — also at Bruno’s — at 6:30 p.m. For more information, visit http://www.kiwanisofthevalleys.org/
Valley Women’s Club
The Valley Women’s Club recently announced that longtime Ben Lomond Site Manager Matt Harris has been hired to take on the interim Director position for the club’s three SLV Redemption and Recycling Centers.
Matt is skilled in team and program development, communicating and working with the public, and maintaining a healthy, safe, and productive work environment.

Residents are encouraged to bring their recyclables to the SLV Redemption and Recycling Centers. All three centers handle the same materials as curbside, as well as providing California Redemption refunds for beverage containers.
The Ben Lomond Transfer Station also handles scrap metals, electronics, and batteries for free Monday through Thursday (and appliances for a small fee).

The new VWC Board is planning for its 37th Annual Meeting, to which the public is invited, on Sunday, March 22, from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Highlands Park Senior Center.
This annual potluck features a “State of the District” address by our 5th District Supervisor, Bruce McPherson, and updates from the offices of U.S. Rep. Anna Eshoo, State Sen. Bill Monning and Assemblymember Mark Stone.
The Redwood Mountain Faire is coming May 30 and 31, and artists, crafters, and non-profit organizations are all invited to apply for a booth to sell their self-made items or share information.

The Faire donated $50,000 to local nonprofits in 2014, and hopes to meet that goal again this year.
 
San Lorenzo Valley Rotary Club
The San Lorenzo Valley Rotary Club recently announced its annual scholarship awards; two $1,000 scholarships are available to SLVUSD seniors who are planning to further their education. 
Club members Joe Griffin and Linda Fawcett have contributed an additional $1,000 for the John and Beverly Fawcett Memorial Scholarship Award. 
Information and applications for all three scholarships will be available at the Counseling Office at SLV High School, or via the club at slvrotaryclub.org. 
In international service, the SLV Rotary Club provided support to both a women’s sewing project in Botswana, and the Becca/Communidad Project in Ensenada, Mexico.
The SLV Rotary Club welcomed Michael Loik, associate professor at the UCSC Enviromental Studies Department to its Wednesday morning meeting on March 4, to give his presentation, “Climate Change in the San Lorenzo Valley.”
On Wednesday, March 11, there will be a club assembly. All members of the community are invited to attend club meetings.
Meetings are held every Wednesday at 7:15 a.m. in the Birch Dining Room at Mt. Hermon Conference Center.
