Rotary Club of San Lorenzo Valley
Julie Haff, superintendent of the San Lorenzo Valley Unified School District, is this year’s president of San Lorenzo Valley Rotary.
The club completed a community service project of rebuilding stairs at a Lompico home and enjoyed breakfast at the home of members Joe Griffin and Linda Fawcett, as well as a potluck at SLV High School.
August speakers include: Charlene McIntyre, Rotary Membership, on Wednesday, Aug. 5; Laura Kasa, Save our Shores Marine Debris program, on Aug. 12; breakfast to honor new SLV teachers on Aug. 19; and Barbara Sprenger from Satellite Telecommute Center in Felton, on Aug. 26.
SLV Rotary Club meets at 7:15 a.m. Wednesdays in Birch Dining Room on Conference Drive at the Mount Hermon Conference Center. Breakfast is $10.
Scotts Valley Host Lions Club
July starts the club’s new year, and the following Lions were installed as new officers: president Harvey Bustichi, secretary Lisa Bustichi and treasurer Molly Imwalle.
The club participated in the Fourth of July celebration at Skypark by selling apple pie. All proceeds were donated to the park advocates.
The dinner meeting of July 14 featured Mike McMurry, Scotts Valley fire chief, as guest speaker. The next dinner meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 11 at the Scotts Valley Senior Center, 1 Civic Center Drive.
Kiwanis Club of Scotts Valley
Kiwanis operated children’s games at the Fourth of July festival at Skypark, netting $2,200 for scholarships and community programs.
Kiwanis will sell drinks for the Music in the Park event Aug. 30 after doing the same on July 26. All proceeds go to the music program of the Scotts Valley Education Foundation. Kiwanis will also provide the stage for the concert as an in-kind donation to the program and will sell light-up toys to benefit local charities.
The club will provide tents and a stage for the Scotts Valley Art and Wine Festival. Proceeds will benefit community organizations and scholarships.
Kiwanis meets at 7 a.m. on the second Wednesday of the month at Heavenly Café, with a cost of $5. However, this month the club will meet at 6 p.m. Aug. 12 for dinner — $20 per person — at the Scotts Valley Hilton, a gathering that will feature a presentation from Sienna House, which supports unwed mothers.
Sons in Retirement
The Scotts Valley Sons in Retirement will meet for lunch at 11:45 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 5, at the Portuguese Hall in Santa Cruz, 216 Evergreen St. Willi Elliot McCrea of Second Harvest Food Bank will be the speaker.

Rotary Club of Scotts Valley
In July, the club said farewell to outgoing president Mike McMurry and welcomed new president Rob Slawinski.
Three new members – Cheryl Ainsworth, Sheri Dean Lopez and Karen Shea – joined the club, and six current members earned blue badges. They are Susan Silver, Patrizia Materassi, Kris Saad, Peggy Brewer, George Saad and Jack Marden.
August 6 is ‘Happy Hour with President Rob’ at Malone’s in Scotts Valley. Folks are welcome to come learn more about the club from 5 to 6 p.m.
The club will have a tailgate party at the Oakland A’s baseball game on August 15th. On August 24, the club will host a teacher appreciation brunch to honor Scotts Valley teachers.
Oktoberfest, one of the club’s biggest fundraisers, will happen on October 16.
The club meets from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Mondays at the Scotts Valley Hilton. Lunch is at 12:15 p.m. and costs $16.
