The San Lorenzo Valley Water District, Scotts Valley Water District, and Mount Hermon Association have joined together to develop a project that will allow the Districts to share water resources in emergencies such as fires and natural disasters. The project is known as the San Lorenzo Valley Water District Regional Water Systems Emergency Interties No. 2, 3, & 4 Project.
The $5.7 million project is partially funded by a California State Grant issued under Proposition 50, otherwise known as the Water Security, Clean Drinking Water, Coastal and Beach Protection Act of 2002.
The project includes the installation of approximately 17, 600 lineal feet of potable water piping. The pipes will be installed along several roads and streets in Felton and Scotts Valley. The construction schedule for the project will extend from June 29 through September 1, 2015 according to SLVWD’s report.
The SLVWD announced on June 26 that emergency intertie road construction will occur between 8:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, excluding holidays.
According to SLVWD, roadwork at Skypark Drive crossing Mount Hermon Road to Lockwood Lane will occur on June 29 through July 6, 2015. Mt. Hermon Road will be reduced to one lane of traffic in both directions during the construction for the installation of a water main.
Construction on Graham Hill Road from Roaring Camp to the top of the hill at Probation Center will extend from July 13 through September 1, 2015, said SLVWD. During construction and installation of water lines, Graham Hill Road will be reduced to one lane and traffic control will be in effect. SLVWD recommends using Mount Hermon Road as an alternate route to avoid traffic delays.
SLVWD plans on keeping motorists notified of changing conditions by using electronic message boards along the various roadways and they will also notify local newspapers of their progress. Additional information regarding the project can be obtained from the San Lorenzo Valley Water District at 831-338-2153.
