Both the San Lorenzo Valley High School boys and girls teams won Division IV team titles at the world’s largest cross country invitational, the Mt. Sac invite.
The races took place on Friday, Oct. 25 at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut. More than 25,000 runners competed in numerous categories.
The San Lorenzo Valley boys were led by Jacob Hicks, who took third, of 180 runners, followed by teammates Matt Abernathy (11th), Eli Young (12th), Jacob Anderson (25th), Mairio Kuntze (61st), Alejandro Corona (69th), and Mitchell San Jose (77th). The team’s overall score of 107, easily outpaced second place El Segundo High School.
Another highlight for the boys was the freshmen boys team which finished second by one point, led by Tyler Van Winkle who took 10th of 163 runners.
The Cougar girls were equally as good, being paced by senior Anna Maxwell who won the Division IV race in 16 minutes, 56 seconds. Teammates Claire MacMillan (6th in 18:31), Abbey Meck (9th), Jessica Jensen (16th), Abbey Sherman (53rd), Katie Lamb (57th) and Jessica Germany (72nd) helped the Cougars to 85 points, outpacing second place Junipero Serra High which scored 93 points.
