San Lorenzo Valley’s Luke Sinnott won three field events for the Cougars as the SLV track team beat Scotts Valley 95-40 in an Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League dual meet at SLV High on March 17.
Anna Maxwell won both the 800 (2 minutes, 26.9 seconds), and 1600 (5:14.9) meters, as did Cody Johnson for the boys winning the 800 (2:09) and 1600 (4:36.2)
Sinnott took home first place in the long jump at 19-1, the high jump at 6-0 and the pole vault at 10 feet.
Cameron Kellogg won both the throwing events for SLV shot put 28-4, discus 93-4.
Andrew Stumbo won his two sprinting events in the 100 (11.6) and 200 (23.9) meter for Scotts Valley (0-2).
Westmont/West Valley Relays
Three SLV distance runners found their way into the top five in the 1500 meter event at the West Valley Relays on Saturday Mar.19. The overall scores were good enough to lead the Cougars to a fifth-place finish out of the 24 team field.
Anna Maxwell, the Cougars blazing freshman, led the SLV girls, finishing second with a time of 4:48.56, Abby Sherman took fourth in 5:04.07 and Claire MacMillan took fifth at 5:04.75.
For the boys, Nick Hicks and Cody Johnson both reined in first place finishes for the Cougars, who also took home fifth place overall.
Hicks won the 1,500-meter race in 4:20.64 seconds, and Johnson won the 800 in 2:01.68.
Cougar sophomore Derek Poetzinger took 12th overall in the 100 meter dash with a time of 12:31.
The SLV sprint medley relay team won second place at 3:53.75, and the 4×1600 team also took home second at 18:51.39.
The Cougars compete next at the Stanford Invitational meet on Friday and Saturday, Mar. 25-26.
