Visiting Mills High School of Millbrae set the tone defensively and coasted to victory over San Lorenzo Valley High School on the gridiron on Saturday, Sept. 21.
All-purpose star Victor Beglitsoff scored three receiving touchdowns, rushed for one and kicked a field goal to lead Mills to a 37-7 victory over SLV, which fell to 1-2 on the season.
Mills scored one touchdown in each of the two quarters while the Cougars struggled to gain yardage on offense.
Mills blew open the contest in the third quarter with a field goal and a touchdown to put the game out of reach at 24-0. Then in the fourth, SLV finally got on the board, for its first points in two games when quarterback Isaac Newbury hit Shaden Pias on a 20-yard scoring reception midway through the quarter.
Beglitsoff scored his final touchdown shortly after, to cap the scoring, on a slightly rainy day in Felton.
Mills finished with 477 yards of total offense, including five catches for 135 yards and three touchdowns from Beglitsoff.
The Cougars had 327 total yards with Kjell Johnson carrying 17 times for 98 yards, and Newbury throwing going 13-for-30 for 184 yards, a touchdown and three interceptions. Shaden Pias had four catches for 88 yards and a touchdown for the Cougars.
SLV hosts Watsonville at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28 to conclude its preseason slate.
Johnston leads way for Falcons
Willie Johhnston scored three touchdowns to help the Scotts Valley High School football team improve to 2-1 with a 35-7 drubbing of Kings Academy in Sunnyvale.
Johnston had 24 carries for 213 yards and three touchdowns as the Falcons piled up 348 total yards, while limiting Kings Academy to a mere 82, including only three first downs.
The Falcon defense forced four turnovers — interceptions by Tyler Bisel and Brady Botkin and fumble recoveries by Ethan Harris and Dalton Locke.
Johnston was also the Falcons leading receiver, catching three passes for 71 yards. Quarterback Jake Lobo went 4-for-9 for 93 yards in the win.
The Falcons will play their final preseason game at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28 when they host Aragon High School of San Mateo.
