The Scotts Valley City Council is scheduled to discuss, without scheduled action, the possibility of amending zoning ordinances to either allow or prohibit medicinal marijuana dispensaries to operate within the Scotts Valley city limits.
In March, the City Council adopted a moratorium on medicinal marijuana dispensaries in order to allow city staffers time to consult neighboring municipalities and consider legal and political issues surrounding dispensaries.
California voters turned down a ballot measure in November to legalize marijuana use.
State laws currently allow medicinal marijuana dispensaries to operate at the discretion of local governments, provided they are regulated and located at a minimum distance of 600 feet from parks, schools and daycare facilities.
