A rundown Felton house under scrutiny from neighbors and law enforcement was declared uninhabitable this week, and its remaining residents were ordered to move out within 36 hours.
Two more arrests were made at 138 Felton Empire Road on Tuesday, March 8, which brought the total number of arrests to 12 at that address since the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office initially made arrests Feb. 2.
County code compliance officials also entered the home on a warrant and deemed it uninhabitable after it was suspected as a drug house. Code compliance served a notice to property owner Jack Smith saying that he and all of his tenants had to leave within 36 hours.
“We’re talking to county counsel to make sure we have a plan in place in the event they don’t move out,” Sgt. Jim Ross said.
The latest arrests were of Anna Richardson, 29, and Raymond Hurt, 63. Richardson was arrested on suspicion of being under the influence of drugs and obstructing officers, as well as on a felony warrant for possession of methamphetamine and a probation violation. Hurt was arrested on suspicion of being under the influence of drugs.
According to the sheriff’s office, there have been many neighborhood complaints about blight and drug use at the house.
