The final curtain dropped on the former Performing Arts Center at San Lorenzo Valley High School, as demolition crews from Salinas-based Tombleson Inc. spent Monday and Tuesday, Aug. 12 and 13, tearing down the venerable building.
“They finished knocking the last wall down this morning,” said Erik Slaughter, construction manager for the San Lorenzo Valley Unified School District. “Everything should be out of there by next week.”
By the time students begin classes at the end of the month, Slaughter said, all evidence of the former building should be gone, and crews are scheduled to begin digging the foundation for the state-of-the-art replacement theater building.
The new $5.25 million theater, tentatively scheduled to be completed in October 2014, is the final campus improvement project funded by Measure O, the local bond measure that funded the new library building.
