A memorial celebration will be March 3 for Scotts Valley resident Dan Mazzoncini, who died at home surrounded by family after battling a heart condition.
Mr. Mazzoncini was the son of Attilio and Virginia Mazzoncini, immigrants from Montecatini, Italy. He was born and raised in San Francisco. After graduating from Sacred Heart High School, Mr. Mazzoncini joined the Navy and served aboard the USS Sicily during the Korean War. He later worked for Kodak, Parisian Bakery and Bay Cities Glass.
Relatives said Mr. Mazzoncini loved traveling with his wife, drinking coffee in the mornings and playing cards in the afternoon with friends at the clubhouse, and spending time with his family. His favorite tradition was Christmas cioppino dinner.
He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Darene; children, Dan Mazzoncini Jr., and his wife, Lisa, of Clayton, Kathy Pierce, and her husband, Don, of Concord, Joanne Vaughn, and her husband, George, of Antioch, Col. Darrel Dodson, and his wife, Linda, Devera Miller, and her husband, Tracy, Denise Wortman, and husband, Terre, and Deanne Carr; and daughters-in-law, Erica Dodson and Brigitte Dodson; 14 grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Anna Mae Mazzoncini; a son, Dannie Dodson; a brother, Dante Mazzoncini; and his parents.
A memorial celebration will begin at 2 p.m. March 3 at Gateway Bible Church, 5000 Granite Creek Road, in Scotts Valley, with a reception to follow.
