Our mother, a Mount Hermon resident, came to the United States 66 years ago. For 66 years, she has been opening her door to trick-or-treaters on Halloween night. She delights in making everyone who comes to her home feel special by complimenting them on their costumes and giving out delicious treats (like cookies from the most expensive, European-style bakeries).
Now, at 96-years old, she knows the neighborhood kids have grown up and there are very few trick-or-treaters who come to her door. This Halloween was very quiet. She was getting ready to turn off her lights and go to bed when someone knocked on her door. When she opened it, she saw two teenagers dressed in costumes. As she offered them her bowl of candy, they presented her with a bouquet of flowers, said good night, and left. Our mother was so surprised she didn’t know what to say! She still doesn’t know who these young people were.
On behalf of our mother, we would like to thank these two young people for this special act of kindness and generosity. Whoever you are, please know you have blessed not only our mother, but our whole family. We have shared this story far and wide, and believe that it will be an inspiration to many.
