Chris Greenly’s friends will gather as they do every month at the Black Mouse Disc Golf Course near San Lorenzo Valley Middle School this weekend for some competitive rounds of disc golf.
Chris, one of the most passionate players in the group, won’t be there.
The 24-year-old San Lorenzo Valley alum remains in critical condition in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center, where he has been since suffering life-threatening injuries in a solo one-car accident in Ben Lomond on Nov. 21.
His family reported that his condition is improving, and that he was to have back surgery on Wednesday, Dec. 14.
Chris had been returning from a Sharks game when he lost control of his BMW on Highway 9 near SS Peter and Paul Antiochian Church, just north of Ben Lomond.
On Sunday, Dec. 18, a benefit disc golf tournament will be held at Black Mouse Disc Golf Course, 7179 Hacienda Way, Felton, to help raise money for the young man’s medical bills. Signups at 9:15 a.m. with a 10 a.m. start
Custom “Team Greenly” Discmania Discs will be for sale (D-Line P2, Swirly S-Line DDX and New Luster MD3 w/ artwork by Faith Green) as well as other new and used discs with 100 percent of the proceeds going to Chris.
There will be trophies and disc script for the division winners. Anyone – players or fans or visitors – may stop by and make a donation to help with Chris’ recovery and rehabilitation.
Chris is a 2010 SLV grad who played football and was an all-league lacrosse player for the Cougars. He works in the family business, Allard Septic Service, in Felton, owned by his parents, Lisa and Ron Greenly, and now lives in Santa Cruz. He has a younger brother, Tyler.
One of his friends, Patrick Eisner, set up a Gofundme account on Facebook on Nov. 30: https://www.gofundme.com/help-chris-greenly on behalf of Lisa Greenly to assist in paying for medical expenses.
The Gofundme goal is $40,000; as of Dec. 12, $18,920 had been raised in less than two weeks.
The Gofundme Facebook post: “Family member, best friend, and loved member of the San Lorenzo Valley community, Chris Greenly, is in the hospital recovering from severe injuries after a terrible car accident. With extreme medical bills and more surgeries to come, we are hoping to ease the strain on Chris and the rest of the family. No donation is too small, anything helps, thank you all.”
