Aug. 23
*At 10 a.m., a 28-year-old woman on Brookside Drive in Ben Lomond was arrested and her children placed in protective custody after a deputy doing a welfare check at her home suspected she was under the influence of a drug stimulant.
Aug. 19
*Deputies found a half gram of methamphetamine in a 44-year-old woman’s pocket on Irwin Way in Boulder Creek. They had approached her at 3:07 p.m. because there were two felony warrants out for her arrest. The woman was booked into Santa Cruz County Jail.

Aug. 22
*Graffiti was found on the pavement on Santa’s Village Road at 8:08 p.m. The city of Scotts Valley will have to pay $30 to remove it.
Aug. 21
*Employees at a business on the 200 block of Mt. Hermon Road caught a 27-year-old man attempting to steal a pair of shoes at 8:45 p.m. He admitted to the crime but did not give his real name to a police officer. He was charged with shoplifting and giving false identification to a peace officer.
*A man driving a vehicle that spewed an unusually large amount of exhaust smoke was pulled over on Scotts Valley Drive at 6:28 p.m. The driver, who was on probation, was soon arrested after a search of his vehicle turned up methamphetamine.
Aug. 20
*Officers arrested a 26-year-old man suspected of shoplifting $45.98 worth of goods from a business on the 200 block of Mt. Hermon Road in Scotts Valley.
*A person driving on Mt. Hermon Road was distracted at 4:05 p.m. when a bee flew into the open car window, causing the driver to hit the back of one vehicle, which in turn rear-ended a third vehicle. No injures were reported.
Aug. 19
*A 28-year-old man driving on the 100 block of Mt. Hermon Road at 7:20 p.m. was pulled over by an officer because he did not go when the traffic light turned green. The officer arrested the driver after finding syringes in the vehicle and suspecting the driver was under the influence of a controlled substance.
*A woman on the 200 block of Tabor Drive called to report that a plant had been taken from her front yard while she was out of town. She said other plants have gone missing over the last several months as well.
Aug. 18
*A vehicle was stolen from a parking lot on the 100 block of Civic Center Drive. It was later found — undamaged and with nothing missing — on the 100 block of Victor Square.
*An iPhone and iPod accessories were taken from an unlocked car on the 100 block of Torrey Oaks Court at about 6 p.m.
Aug. 17
*A very intoxicated woman walking along the 200 block of Mt. Hermon Road and hassling passersby was arrested at 2:08 p.m. for disorderly conduct. She was booked into jail.
*A boy caused a fire on the 300 block of Kings Village Road by lighting a firework in dry brush.
*A man called to report that someone in New York had tried to use his credit card information to make purchases online. The transaction for more than $1,000 was cancelled before it went through.
